Manual head on a Hunter 41, rebuild pump assembly every year, always use vinegar followed by mineral oil as Peggy recommends. Any ideas why it splashes water back up when pumping? Where should I look first? Thanks.

Check the tank vent for a blockage...

A blocked vent will pressurize the tank creating backpressure against the flush. The joker valve is a one way valve that shouldn't let anything oome back through it that isn't under pressure unless it's worn out. However, rebuild kits include joker valves, so if you put a rebuild kit in it every year, I doubt that a worn out joker valve is your problem. Something has to be creating backpressure... NO toilet should need rebuilding more often than once every 3-4 years. So doing it every year is a waste of money. Jabsco toilets are so flimsy that they're an exception...but spending upwards of $50 every year to keep a $100 toilet working is an even bigger waste of money. For about $250 you can replace the toilet with a Raritan PH II that'll work reliably for 20 years if it's only kept lubricated and rebuilt every 5-6 years...the PH II also flushes twice as efficiently with far less effort.
