Hi all, seeking advice on whether I should apply paint to the deck of my J24 or just clean the original gel coat. I am concerned that once painted I will have to repeat often as the boat is berthed in UAE where climate is hotter. Any advice welcome.

Painting the deck so that it is done well and will last a long time is a time intensive project and may be difficult to do in Dubai unless the boat is in an air conditioned building. I'd go with a good cleaning. A small power washer will do a good job on the nonskid, just be careful around the fittings so the caulking is not washed out.

Spray Nine is hands down the best cleaner I've ever used. Most cleaners get decks white. This stuff gets them bright white with very little effort. If your gelcoat is dull then Magic Erasers (melamine) sponges work wonders. Acetone in moderation works extremely well at certain types of dirt. When you're done cleaning, pick up some boat wash that contains a wax. It'll help keep it cleaner for longer

Seconding @dlochner's advice. Paint and you will paint again. BTDT. 2X. A lot of work and not fun or particularly healthy. Gelcoat is tougher and MUCH thicker than paint. If it looks dull it will reflect less into your eyes and be better for you.
