Moonsailor....

sailed Friday out of Pascagoula MS. out to the Barrier Islands. Saturday I took my boat upriver to my other slip in Moss Point for a fish fry/party that night then sailed in the river on Sunday. Was hot all three days here in South MS. but the wind was blowing so I just had to go sail. Acording to my GPS I have sailed 1031 nautical miles since I installed the new Garmin 10 months ago! "Sailor Makes Tea From Lake Lanier Waters" !!!!!

You want hot?!!!!! Take a cup of Lake Lanier water and add a teabag? Place mixture over ice with some lemon and suger and you now have ice tea!! Thats the only way to describe Lake Lanier in the dog days of summer; where sailboats become motorboats, the haze is so thick you need to use your fog horn, where its more painful to jump in the lake then broil out on deck in the sun, where you loose ten pounds of weight from perspiration walking from your car to the boat!! And to think that in four-five weeks halloween stuff will adorn the shelves of our drug and grocery stores!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay cool people Bob 30 Catalina

Gators

There are a lot of gators in south GA, but I have yet to see one in Lake Lanier. However there are a lot of really big stripers..... On the other hand, we just got back from our annual Hilton Head vacation a couple of weeks ago and saw plenty of gators there in the lagoons. Bob is right about making tea, but I sure wouldn't drink it.... Pray for wind...

Frank What's it like at the Islands???

We were at Dog River in Mobile Bay for about 9 months and sailed down to the bottom of the bay several times but always went east towards Pensacola when we had more time. I was scared of all of the shallow water west of Mobile Bay. We even talked about taking our sea kayaks across the sound but never did attempt the crossing. Chandeleur Islands have caught my imagination as well. I've heard stories of catching fish like crazy with gators lying on the beach and sharks in the shallow water. Seems like a wild place. We took the ferry over to ship island and went snorkiling years ago and greatly enjoyed the trip. Some day I will have to have the courage to take my boat all the way into New Orleans!!! I guess that my biggest fear is to get caught by strong winds in the shallow water of the sound. We have been out in Mobile bay during some strong winds and the bay really developes some chop. Near vertical waves close together much less comfortable than larger swells on the open gulf. I love the gulf coast 9 months out of the year. July ,August and September are just too hot and humid.

More time overboard

The kids like it more that way, because there is more time overboard and in the water. But I must say, I have never experienced conditions like those described here! Frank: Thanks for the movie!

Too hot for this old Fl native

Lacking a permanent dock space this summer I'm too put out to set up our 260 in the heat just to be run out by late afternoon lightening. Otherwise I usually sail pretty steady from around Oct 1st to about June 10th so this is my "off season" in super sweltering sunny Fl. I suppose if I had a dock/mooring I'd probably still use the evening breeze(post thunderstorms). Any reasonable dock space around Sarasota??;) Have a great season. Michael and Kelli

Dog Days of Summer

Last weekend we hid from the sun. We napped on board under the A/C. Feeling quilty from not taking the heat we pledge to sail next weekend, wind permitting, regardless of the temperature. I agree. It is never too hot to sail. Treasure the last days of Summer.
