Two stages to being seasick!

As I see it...there are two stages to being seasick, stage one, you think you are going to die. Stage two...you think you aint!' I was getting green once and the mate handed me some peanut butter crackers, (Lance I do beleive) and told me to chew a while before I swallowed. Worked real well. She said the oils in the peanut butter helps. For what it's worth! Jack

HYDRATE!

When I feel a little funky a huge glass of water tends to cure me. A MD friend attributes it to pressure in the belly supressing the effects of motion sickness, but over the years I have drawn a very strong correlation between dehydration and sea-sickness susceptability. This is comeing from someone who rarely feels anything more than moderte discomfort, so it may not help those more stricken. I have found that folks using scopolomine patches on my boat can ALWAYS clear their vision problems by hydrating. If things get blurry, chug a pint or more of water and clear vision returns within 15-20 minutes. My strong assumption is that as your blood thickens with dehydration the scop concentration increases to a level that causes the effect. Hydrating thins it out enough to cure the problem or allows your kidneys to clear it. Scopolomine has worked wonders for people who sail with me.

Been there done that...

OK, I have rarely gotten sea sick. All the descriptions are a good match. Death would be welcome to some I am sure but I found it a nuisance more than anything. I found that if I was the pilot at the wheel I could hold anything down but step away fom the wheel and thar she barfs. Must have been a concentration thing. So take your dramimine while still on shore, maintain the dose, stay on deck, maintain hydration and keep busy. OH and clean up after your accidents.

Ginger Snaps

Ginger works very well for us on our boat. We keep both ginger snap cookies (everyone loves them) and ginger tablets on board. normally a couple ginger snaps and you are cured but for those really bad days a ginger tablet works. Myth busters did a test and found that ginger works as well if not better than the perscription drugs and no side effects.
