But I still can't sail it, upper shroud turnbuckle had an argument with the winch whilst raising the mast...... winch won.
Getting her off the trailer was an episode, had to almost submerge the Explorer before she floated clear.
First boat and I'm very happy so far
Dfrancis23,
Congrats! I am also a newbie with a 1980 23. We just launched last weekend and had the same reaction. It didn't sink! In Florida to take sailing lessons this week. Good luck!
You should be able to get measurements off the existing turnbuckles, and call APS today http://www.apsltd.com 800 - 729 - 9767 and they should be able to send it to you by tomorrow. I usually get stuff the next day they send out. Or, you could take the busted one down with you for an Annapolis day-trip on Saturday. Stop by The Boatyard for oysters, crab cakes, and a bloody Mary. (That's what I've been known to do )
It's just an open body turnbuckle, nothing fancy or custom about it. APS can tell you what measurements they need to get a replacement to you.
Yep, gotta keep them straight when raising the mast. I bent two the first time I raised it. I now loosen the turnbuckles by about ten turns before lowering the mast, then when raising tighten them 10 turns to get back to your tuned position. I also just use the main sheet instead of a winch to raise it.
Looks nice.
I got all new turnbuckles for my 25 from Garhauer. Of course the t-pin thread was opposite of what I have but, they exchanged them for the price of me shipping the unusable ones back to them, almost $6.... so yeah, no big deal.
