ive been real busy having fun on the boat and havent visited the forums in a while. Everything has been going pretty smooth. Ive started sailing her ('86 40' Hunter) and she performs beautifully! I have only experienced minor problems, not that big a deal, but i figured i might ask if anyone had any experience or knowledge about this:
sometimes, when i turn the helm, the rudder "gets stuck". its just for a second, and when i turn it back the other way just a hair, and then back, it "unsticks" and turns like normal. any ideas? it doesnt happen every time, but enough. it doesnt stop me, but what if it did?
also, does anyone know where i can get the pinstripes for the cabin top? actually, i guess i would call it racing stripes. i have found a 3m product locally, but noone seems to carry the right color here locally. its a 2" wide stripe, navy blue. i can only find a bright blue. it comes in 50' rolls for less than $20 at west marine. guess i should google it, i just like to pick stuff up now instead of ordering and waiting!
my engine seems to be running flawlessly, aside from some white smoke when i first start, but after i get under load it seems to go away.
ive gotten some good practice getting in and out of my tight slip. no mishaps yet.
planning on anchoring out for the weekend next weekend! got a small generator and and adapter to let me plug it directly to my shorepower inlet. works pretty good and powers everything onboard!
this is just the start of sailing season here, I hope to learn a lot and maybe get into the wednesday nite races here in charleston.
hope everybody had a good summer!
