It's a sad spring this year

As many of you know due to the changes in my life recently (most notably a pending d-i-v-o-r-c-e) I had to put my beloved Emmanuel up for sale although I was hoping against hope that at least I could launch her this spring. Cold, hard reality has forced me to admit that this is not possible this year so for now Emmanuel will remain on the hard in Bayfield.

I know I can say it to you guys because other people (non sailing types you know) will never get it-but this truly breaks my heart. I can handle everything else but the thought of not being on my own boat and sailing this summer-well, I can hardly find the words but I would guess many of you know how bad it feels.

I got my big girl panties on and I am sucking it up but it leaves me feeling all hollow inside.

The good news is that I am available to crew if anyone wants to take pity on a poor boatless sailing wench.

Sorry for your troubles.........a truly sad state of affairs when a sailor has to give up a boat. Of course, my sympathies for the marital difficulties as well.

I'm sure that once you get back on course with your life, there will be another boat for you to enjoy. Until then, good luck.

Sorry about your losses. A 40 foot hunter is a big loss. Do the boot strap thing and get back on your feet.

Sorry to hear it....and can't help ya as I'm in Texas....but....

When I went through my divorce 7 years ago, we had a nice 30' travel trailer. I loved that big beast and we pulled it all over the place for weekends and vacations. She insisted it be sold. She would not agree to any other disposition of the asset. It had to be sold and monies split evenly. I wanted to buy her out: No. If I tried to sell it cheap and buy it back later her lawyer threatened to have a field day with me in court. (Seems Texas frowns on that) Really, all she wanted to do was keep me from enjoying the trailer with another woman.

So, it got sold....and I still miss it to this day; I loved that trailer.....but....

It's so much better now! I used some of that money to buy myself a Corvette, which brought me 4 years of fun and excitement....and a never ending line of women too.....

I guess what I'm trying to say..... LEMONADE!!! make some......

Princess, I feel for you.

Have you thought about a 22 Hunter or Catalina? If you can swing it they're cheap little daysailers that'll get you on the water while life sorts itself out. When it does you can probably sell it for what you paid.

It will get better...

Since you want to sell ASAP (summer is the HOT season) and you'll need to launch for sea trial should you receive an offer, the cost will be the expense of maintaining in the water instead of on the hard. If boats sell faster in the water (I don't know, but seems possible) these costs may be offset by the faster sale.
Having to sell your boat is enough without not being able to use it during the best weather of the year, that's just too much for a sailor to bear gracefully.
Check with your broker to see if he'll back you up a little, some of them here will provide dockage and cleaning for listed boats.
BTW I went from 40' to 27' for a while, felt like driving a sportscar, very liberating, you'll enjoy something a tad lighter for awhile.

Sorry to hear that you won't get her on the water Princess. If you ever want to sail a couple laps around Big Island on my O' Day 25, let me know. Planning on having a mooring on Excelsior bay. Good luck with all the rest, been there myself many years ago.

Too bad for now, but you never know what's just around the corner ... I'm disappointed for you about the trip you were mentioning last year. Out of the question for now I suppose, but it would have been epic! Still moving east?

Sigh! I feel compelled to repeat myself. Again!

As I have learned from the Marines here in Quantico ... :naughty:

If it flies, floats or fornicates, rent it! It's cheaper in the long run! :D

There I said it, no going back now!

Hopefully you are laughing just a little bit now POTL. ;)

I am really sorry to hear that. I remember what it was like to go through a divorce. They suck!

Hopefully you have a lot of good friends around that you can sail with some. I would loose my mind if I wasn't able to sail.

Oh Princess, that just hurts to think about.

Hang in there and should you ever get down to Kansas (yes, that Kansas), think Lake Perry/Perry Yacht Club. I'm sure crewing would be an option...

why not launch and move aboard? Deem it as your primary residence and be somewhat happy, divorce and all. Where there's a will ther's a way. Good luck in the future, divorce really sucks big time.

Princess, [why not launch and move aboard?] What I did when we split 12 years ago. Lived 13 months on my old 30 foot Pelle Petterson near Washington in a creek off the Potomac. Wonderful experience and great way to transition. If your family situation (children??) allows give it a thought.
