Thanks for the posts!!
Today for me will be spent enjoying the beautiful weather, doing odd jobs around the boat and remembering the fine folks I served with .. Navy, '68-'72..

Thanks for the reminders all.
For those that would like to do a little something extra, I found a couple sites a while back that let you do something directly. I don't care for the idea of just sending money to some big outfit. They might take a significant cut for themselves first, and I like something more personal.

anysoldier dot com lets you send a care package directly to a soldier in harm's way.
operationpaperback dot org will do the same for books for soldiers that are overseas

They require no money from you. They just provide names and addresses and tips for shipping overseas. Like, don't send shampoos and such with food items. Your package might sit awhile in 120 degree heat. Think about it.
I'm not affiliated with these places at all, just thought I'd pass on what I feel is a good thing.

My brother threw himself a 60th birthday bash. I was among a dozen seated at his table. As an honor to veterans, he introduced me. I felt good. Then he introduced the first air force pilot that was a guest at the Hanoi Hilton in Nam; then a tail gunner in the Pacific during WW II; then the oldest fellow there, who survived the Battle of the Bulge. Made my tour of duty in Germany seem like peanuts. My hat's off to all who saw hostile action during their service. I salute you.

Because so many of you served, I didn't have to. Thank you, one and all.
