THE MANUAL FOR THE YANMAR IS VAGUE AS TO WHERE THE ZINC IS. I'VE LOOKED ALL OVER. CAN'T FIND IT. ASKED THE DEALER. ALL I GOT WAS MUMBLES ABOUT "IT'S GOT TO BE THERE SOMEWHERE" ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
TWO RESPONDENTS STATED THAT FRESH WATER COOLED YANMARS DIDN'T HAVE ZINCS. I HAD TWO UNIVERSALS AND A PAIR OF MERCRUISERS THAT WERE FWC AND THERE WERE ZINCS IN THE HEAT EXCHANGERS.WHAT GIVES?
I have owned 4 Yanmar engines, 1Gm, and the two cylinder, 3 cylinder, and now the 4 cylinder engines. The 1 GM was raw water cooled and had a zinc. The other three engines were/are fresh water cooled and do not have engine zincs. No kidding.
My understanding from a Yanmar seminar is the engine does not use dissimilar metals where cooling water passes through and therefore no zincs are required.
..since even on fresh water cooled engine , the heat exchange unit located on the engine (in my Yanmar 2GM20F)has most probably dessimilar metals , along with both fresh and salt water .Frankly , I am worried , and the standart explanation why on fresh water cooled engine no zincs needed , doesn't apply to this issue.I woulk like some answer on that ..
Seems to me I heard the inside of the heat exchangers are plated with something that precludes the need for a zinc. Don't know what that something is though...
