First I want to thank all of the Warriors who have served in our Armed Forces.

I was recently asked
"What will you be doing on Memorial Day?"

We had no grand plans. so I replied....

Getting up, making coffee... and in the quiet of the morning light - spend a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of the warriors who through their commitment and sacrafice allow me to have the life we enjoy.

Just finished our Memorial Day celebration at city hall with my American Legion Post. Here is a picture of my FIL and I after the ceremony.

No such grand plans.... I too will reflect on those who sacrificed to allow me what I have, then brief nap and off to work......( if only for another 44 days ) and get to work with a great group of recently removed from service folks who are now using their skills in the civilian world. And next year, should be able to spend the time on the boat....

I had a busy weekend, not necessarily all "Memorial Day" related:
- Friday - picked up a new storm door and replaced the old on on the front entry door
- Saturday - drove to South Bend, IN to see my some and his wife and to take them out for a "birthday lunch" at the Brass Elk in Elkhart, IN. Their birthdays are a week apart - so we a two-fer.
- Sunday - Took some friends to see the Chicago Cubs play the White Six in the Crosstown Classic... unfortunately, the Cub lost in the 12th inning ;-(
- Today, took my father-in-law out for a sail in 20+ knots of wind on the south end of Lake Michigan. My FIL is not a veteran, but he enjoyed getting out of the house for a bit today. He is afraid of the sun though (some skin cancer issues), so he was covered from head-to-toe... but he seemed to not be bothered by the heat.
After our sail, we gave a fellow sailor (who is legally blind and cannot drive) a ride home so he could see his grandson who turned 4 years old this weekend...and to give him his first set of golf clubs!

All in all, a busy, but good weekend...

Now, back to the salt mines tomorrow ;-(

It's important to know history. I'm looking at causalities for the battle of Shiloh, perhaps the most violent battle of the (Un) Civil War. 23,000 causalities . About 3,500 killed in those two days. You've got to recognize that a lot of causalities didn't survive their injuries.
Not that I am a Dove but when will humans learn what a waste of treasure wars are. War is perhaps the most stupid endeavor of mankind.
My sympathies to the victims and families of all people who were sent to war by more powerful people (Who largely enjoyed comfort during these conflicts.).
