Just back from a haul out. Our boat was perched in the yard next to a gorgeous 2000 Swan 42. A through hull on the Swan had failed, the single bilge pump was overwhelmed and the boat had sunk 2 feet before someone at the marina noticed something was wrong. Big time damage! Moral of the story, it doesn't matter who made your boat, how pretty it is or how much it cost, you better keep an eye on it! Peter Milne S/V Blue Heron

Yep...

We had a $750,000 (was up for sale) 50+ footer Hinkley sink in the slip here. It's now up for sale for $400,000.

Unreal . . . .

How can such high end boats have single points of failure or poor backups like that ????

Peter, we would really like to get more details.

You know, what part of the thru-hull system failed. Hose, seacock, or actual bronze stuff. Scary, as always.

dock sinking

An older wooden power boat next to me at the marina went down when it's bilge pump failed. I'd been telling the guy for weeks his pump was running too much, even offered to help him fix it, but he always declined. Insurance scam?
