Hi Paul,Just in case you were't sure you understood the severity of what Maine Sail mentioned, this metal plug that's threaded into the PSS's carbon ring is certain to fail in a dangerous way.The problem here, as I understand, is that the brass and the carbon ring will not expand with heat in a compatible ways. The brass will expand more than the carbon can absorb. The carbon ring will very likely split in half and cause your boat to take on large amounts of water very quickly.This is why they used a plastic barb. You really should NOT motor your boat until this is changed.
