Iso Transformer or Galvanic Isolator

Hi all. We're doing an extensive refit of a new to us C&C 39. In designing the new electrical system I'm stuck between including a galvanic isolator or an isolation transformer. The $500 difference won't break the bank but there are definitely other ways it could be spent. We're currently bay sailors with other ports up and down the coast in our future once they're open again and the refit is complete-ish.

Writing this, I think we're leaning towards the isolation transformer but wondering if it's overkill.

Appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

The gold standard is an isolation transformer as they completely isolate the boat's AC system from the shore system. However, as you noticed they are both expensive and heavy.

In most cases a GI should be sufficient, that's the route I took. $500 will go a long way towards a new Sterling/Promariner 60 amp charger. Or the it is the cost of one FireFly carbon foam battery.;)

You may have helped me answer two questions at once. We were also on the fence about Firefly batteries!
