Has anyone used Island Girl system on a newer boat? Thanks for your info. I'm thinking of using it on a Hunter 1999

why?

I've heard some have used it to restore an older boat with a failed finish but don't get why anyone would use it when the gelcoat is or should be in good condition.

Excellent solution for a newer vessel.

Don: Actually Island Girl is an excellent product for a newer vessel. It helps protect the gel coat by feeding the pores. When used with the sealer it makes maintenance much easier. If your gel coat does not oxidize there is not much to keeping her shinnin'. Just remember that IG is not a "floor finish" like poly glow.

YOU BET

I have, and loved it, on both my newer boat and older boat. The answer to why? Simple to keep your good finish from becoming a "failed finish" It seals and protects the existing gel coat. It will not thin the gel coat like compounding and abrasives will. Therefore you have a thicker gel coat well into the life of the boat. Too much abrasive will remove the gel coat over the years. If you are only going to keep it a few years don't bother someone else can worry about it. I would however do all I can to protect my boats finish. Use it you won't be sorry.

You bet

I've used it for many years on my green 1977 O'Day 27 and every year it brought my oxidized gelcoat back to life and preserved it throughout the season. No buffing -- just apply it with a paper towel! I sold the boat & bought a 1977 white Pearson 323 and I thought I would use regualr wax -- what a mistake -- next year it's Island Girl and a roll of paper towels! I highly recommend it.

Sounds like great stuff

sounds like it is equally as effective (if not moreso) as compared with traditional polish/wax/pain-in-the-rear process that takes way too much time and effort. How long does it last and what maintenance is required?
