Non-skid sealant only on non-skid.

Jonathan: You will only use the non-skid sealant on the non-skid. You will use one of the other products (like Silkenseal sp) for the other surfaces. Once these products have dried you can use the Island Girl wax or any other wax product that fits your requirements.

Boat Wax

You know its really interesting reading all these ideas looking for the best finish and protection for our boats. I have been there and wondered/wanted the same thing. Is there any possibility that there is a magic potion out there, one that is better than anything else? Same thing with car waxes, is price of the product an indication as to the results? Suppose many of us would pay $500.00 for a carefree/easy product that would make the boat sparkle, not require much more than a ocassional wash down to maintain that sparkle for a year or more. Guess the best that I have found is 3M hull conditioning rubbing compound followed by a 3M hull wax all applied and buffed with a high speed buffer. Most boat yards do this and they will charge you around $500.00. However, if you do it yourself, takes about 1 extra day in the yard (during your annual haulout) and will cost you less than $100.00 (not including the haul out and other yead cost) So I guess it all comes down to your chose, fiddle around searching for the magic potion or do it the old fashion way. Happy hunting, Darrel

Darrel, The thing about IG is it seals.

IG is really great for those tired old gelcoats. IG seals up the pores so dirt doesnt get back in. Compounds/Waxes do not seal the pores like IG does. IG is no means a majic bullet, but it has made my old tub look good again and stays that way long after waxes wear off.

island girl etc,

Steve I cant argue about the doing the meguiars often however , if I do a really good job in the spring it looks great in the beginning, I always get compliments from owners of similiar boats, and then usually when it starts to look bad it is toward the end of the season and I am lazy and just tell myself it can wait until haulout , then it gets put off until the spring, it would be nice to have an indoor spot to work in the winter months , my boat is indoors but a long way from where I live, I did have great luck with the poliglow , used it for several years , I think after the initial application it took about the least amount of work to keep it looking good, until the dreaded year of the streaks , thats when I went back to meguiars, guess it is the devil you know versus the devil you dont, also if I had faith in the island girl I might have had better luck , I just had some many products in the kit and hate to read directions when I have something new so I just sort of started experimenting and did not have the best of luck , I know that is not the way to do things, well, hope everone is soon getting ready for spring, take care and fair winds Mike Bacome

To Mike (On Poliglow)

Mike, I'm using Poliglow now and am having good results. When you got the streaks, did you try to take off the coatings and re-apply? and did they come back? Also, what did the streaks look like? Just curious to see if that's in my future. Thanks! /Chuck S/V Windsongs H23

Black Streaks

Black streaks are part of boat/RV ownership. Its just dirt that gets washed off the top/deck and runs down the sides. Island Girl or any other magic potion won't stop it. Only way to cure black streaks is good and frequent wash jobs using a good soap and deck brush. The more often you wash it the less you will see of the streaks.

poliglow

Chuck , not trying to alarm anyone , it was more the circumstances than the product, I used it (poliglow) for several years, had great results,What I had done was add to previous years applications in the past and it had worked, last year I got behind on things, had a launch date I felt was carved in stone, at the last minute when I started to do the poliglow I ended up with these bad streks, like dirty water had ran down the hull and dried, anyhow when it happened I did not have enough of the poli prep to strip the areas I had trouble with so I went over it a few times and it seemed to ge worse, I called the person I get it from and they mailed me some , it stripped it down and at that point went back to using the meguiars because I knew how long it would take me to get it to where I wanted it and was not in the mood to experiment, , I know the guy here Dan who distributes it , great guy , very helpful, his son sent me some real quick , just was not prepared for what happened as it happened, , it is a very good product, although I do like the looks of my boat when I do the meguiars, hope this has cleared up some confusion , I am equally certain that the island girl is a fine product , it was the way I went about using it, thats it for now , Mike
