First let me say that I am a very satisfied user of IG products on my boat. Today, I went to my boat and was dismayed to see it, along with several others in the marina, covered with yellow spots covering the entire topsides as if someone had sprayed diesel fuel in the air and it fell on all the boats. Since I have recently applied the IG superwax, I wanted to see how to clean it without completely removing all the treatment. I posted a message on the IG web site expecting a reply in a couple of days. About an hour later, I got a phone call from Jim in Hawaii. we discussed the situation and he provided what guidance he could, not knowing exactly what the stain is, That's real customer service that you won't get from some large chemical company.

Bill, let us know.

Let us know what worked to clean the "stuff" off but did not remove all of the IG treatment.

In the end, it turns out that a landacaping company was spraying a liquid iron and manganese fertilizer around the marina during a wind. It blew all over the boats in certain parts of the marina. A brand new (2 months) catalina 470 looked about 20 years old as did a new trawler. Mine looked like someone had spilt coffee or tea . we ended up using a product from home depot called "rust-aid" which smelled sort of like strong acetic acid. It would disolve the stain and then we'd rinse with wated. Water still beads so the IG product is still intact. Some of the shine is decreased but IG says it'll come back with an applicatrion of Silkenseal. I'll try that this weekend. At least i didn't have to rewax the entire boat to get rid of the stuff.

never really remove it!

Bill: That is a good testamonial. I believe that the difference with IG and other products is that they are not a cover-up but actually a treatment of the GelCoat. If you look at Dr. Jim's science you will see that you are feeding the surface and filling the pores. This is unlike the acrylic treatments. I have yet to do my decks with the IG system, but this is one of my spring projects.
