Of course it’s worth it. It has been a sanctuary of relaxation from the stresses of raising our children, job stress, money worries, health issues, aging parents, basically the stuff of life for most families. Weekends at the boat spent with friends enjoying the sound your boat makes cutting through the water, a magic night skinny dipping with friends under a roof of stars, cooking burgers on the grill, toasting another beautiful sunset, cuddling in the morning after a stormy night. All are priceless. I can't think of a better way to spend my time.

So many amazing memory's on my C&C 40, been in my family all her life, broke my hart to sell her, but it was time to move on, she gave us more than any amount of money ever could, and I wouldn't trade those memory's for anything.

Freedom at my fingers...

It may not always be logical to own, but it is an emotional decision.

Having her on the mooring gives me the option of saying F-it, lets just head south!

After having a boat for so long, it seems to become part of you, so it no longer is a choice, but a way of life. :D

Very good question. For me the answer is yes, though I've spent far more time getting the systems working again/updating along the way than actually sailing the boat away from the slip, though this fall that is changing.

Most common voyage, two mile trip to the nearest pump out. Lots of practice docking and close quarter handling.

Times I've most enjoyed on the boat are in the slip, use of the boat as a second home, even though it is 1.25 miles away, it is quieter there, cooler, and I enjoy my live aboard neighbors immensely. Taking it out and getting to know its other function is adding a whole new dimension to its value. FWIW, I have a business at home, the walls close in on me, this the boats real value... different walls.

I work from home full time as well....and while it has it's advantages, being able to leave work and "go home" is not one of them.

The value of having a place to escape to...that can escape from something itself...is priceless.

This is my first boat and I'm keeping her for a few years until I get my finances setup for my next boat, which I will keep until I retire and buy my world cruiser. (20 years) My next boat will be at least 30' for more comfortable weekenders, and a nice slip with a sizable covered patio on it. I've seen some nice setups where folks back in, and have a gas grill, patio furniture, cover, ceiling fan, storage locker, lights (both string and overhead) etc...really nice setup for weekends on the boat. Really cool alternative to a lake house.

is there a monetary value to
being able to move home sans packing and schlepping stuff?
beautiful scenery and the thrill of catching dinner from the cockpit of your home
to the enjoyment of the environment thru which one sails to get to a really cool place with a breathtaking anchorage
to playing with life in the sea
serenity and peace and beauty
if there is a monetary value to this, then YES, IS WAAAAY WORTH IT!!!
if not---it is more worth it way more than you can imagine.
