................... feel good stories I've read in a long, long, time.
I hate to say it but I just don't feel that'd work in or near a big, ugly, crowded city. Not with the kind of people you see and what they do on a daily basis. And our civic politicians continue to wring their collective hands as to how this city is going to accommodate a 30% growth in the next 25 years. You know it's only going to get worse.

I have a lot of family that still lives in Cambridge and as nice as it is i cant indulge in to much fantasy as they do need a police force for the same stuff that happens everyplace
That story is a glimpse of the treasure that endures and the people who live, by choice, on the uncrowded side of the Chesapeake Bay. As farming and fisheries are diminished we lose an important part of our culture. It is a race against over-development, and polluted waters.

I spent my growing up summers a few inlets north of Rock Creek. My granddad had an ongoing account with Wheelers there in Deale that was handled much the same way as the marina story. Those were the "old" days when trust and honor mattered...

I remember the marina where my grandparents kept their powerboat in the late 40's and 50's. We would fill the boat with fuel, fill the cooler with beverage and grab snacks. We'd write it all down on a ticket and leave it at the till.
Even when the mail boat went on its rounds he let people ride and delivered needed goods since he was going that way anyhow.
Everyone was trusted and the honor code was real.
What has happened? Sure, we all have more stuff. But really we've lost more than we have gained and I don't think it's comming back.

Lloyd "Hot Dog" Simpkins of Mount Vernon is Somerset County royalty, the dean of storytelling, noted for wit and humor with quips like "The nor'easter wind down here was so strong one day it blew a five pound layin' hen into a gallon jug and Tuesday didn't arrive until 4 p.m. Thursday."
Priceless.

Sounds fairly close to the marina where I keep my boat on the Upper Eastern Shore of the Ches.
Just about every sale is done on the honor system ... either you record the sale in 'the book on the counter' or just send in the extra charge with your monthly bill for 'incidentals'.
Everything laid back.
No chintzing or purposeful 'running up the bill' by the marina.
Need a tool, sure take one in the shop but be sure to bring it back .... today, or tomorrow.

I've been dealing with Jack and Eldon for a while now, closest place to haul my boat. Eldon is a very special guy, always willing to help. Sometimes when they get talking fast, I can't understand their "Eastern Shore".
This year I've decided to move down the river from Cedar Hill to Scotts Cove. It's not without its shoaling problems, shallow and very remote. Then there is the mine field of crab pots to get out. But it puts me 2hrs closer to the Bay, Solomons Island, Crisfield, Smith Island. And the rents even cheaper!
