Is this thing balanced right?

Just out of curiosity, why on my Hunter 23 are the sink/stove, batteries, water supply tank, and my 83 lb Honda 4 stoke all on the port side. Should I make some changes while restoring this boat? I thought at least I could move the water supply tank (5gal) and the bateries to the starboard side. Any suggestions?

Just the original design

Justthe original design. There were some articles in the archives discussing some mods folks have made. I also hope to make some this winter but have not yet decided on what to do. This is the first year I had the H23 in the water. I spent extra time this spring repainitng the bottom and getting the boot stripe just right. Of course, the boot stripe on the port side now looks like crap since it spent most of the season sitting in the water due to the way the boat lists to port with all that extra weight. I also noticed that the boat sails better when on port tack than on starboard tack. I suspect the weight mismatch may have something to do with that as well. Good luck and let me know what mods you decide to make.

No, there is more weight to port

I don't use the 5 gal water bottle, I moved my battery below the companionway and I store all my water (4 2.5 gal containers) and most of my gear in laundry baskets in the starboard quarter-berth (the "coffin"). It helps keep my boat on an even keel. Peter H23 "Raven"
