Is this centerboard ruined?

I agree with Dave, if your CB uphaul breaks while you're off the trailer you are in a predicament as you can't easily trailer the boat with the board down. You're half way there since the board is out.

The centerboard bunks could be cedar planks of approx. 1/2 to 3/4 inch or plywood. I used plywood which I had around and the result isn't as stiff as I'd like. You can see the little brackets at the edge of the bunks; measure these to determine the thickness to use.

dennis; thank you for the photos and glad to see you keep up with the trailer as many do not. I prefer the ply as it does bend easier for longer life than a stiff board which would crack and then replacement. Remember folks the centerboard only weighs about 100 lbs or thereabouts but only the rear tip is resting on that board which is not much weight. Ok soothsayers, now report the supposed actual weight. Yuck Yuck

Thanks for the pics. Any thoughts on the kind of plywood? Will Home Depot exterior grade be good enough?
I'm also curious about a feature on your trailer that is missing on mine. The Rollers just ahead of the bunks. Is that standard with the original trailer or something you added? I find that the trailer flexes more than I'm comfortable with going over bumps. The whole boat porpoises over the bigger bumps. Maybe those rollers help?

IMG_0357.JPG PR,
The rollers are something I added to help the bow come up when I winch the boat in. I have used them for "drive on" but don't recommend it because if the boat gets crossways the brackets can gouge the hull.
My boat sits too bow high on the trailer which makes it difficult to load and causes a gap between the bow and bow chock as the boat tilts backward when coming out of the water. This is a set-up flaw I've seen on many factory trailers. The rollers help compensate a little but more importantly they do help spread the load.
I used exterior plywood for the centerboard bunks and treated 2x6 for the main bunks. I'll probably have to redo in a few years.....we'll see.

As per your new CB Uphaul advice, we have 7/16" Samson XLS (the softest, most low-stretch, abrasion resistant & durable of that line of ropes - polyester) on the way. Thanks!

send me a private email so I can go over with you on the installation of the centerboard. Will discuss the need for the other roller if you like.
