Steve: I do not know of anything on the net. There is a guy from the bay area that sells parts for these type of units (D-I-Y). There is also a system that is suppose to be inexpensive from Askeland that you may want to check out. http://www.askelandinc.com/ I guess my question to you is why don't you look at a system that is already packaged up and ready to go? Regardless of what you choose, they all recommend that you have 4" of insulation. If the factory did not build it that way, it is very difficult to put it in afterwards. We can get more insulation in, but without shrinking the size of the box it is not easy.

Check out www.frigoboat.com. There is an excellant page there called refrigeration 101. You will also find recharging guidelines and an incredible amount of information regarding refrigeration in general. The site is huge, so try not to get lost in there.

The Box Book

The last time I entered "marine refrigeration" as a search word, over 40,000 sites came up. Take a look at the 10 most popular. Several years ago, Mike Adler wrote The Box Book. It's a bit outdated when it comes to the new spaceage insulations available today, but the basics of good box constuction remain. Email me an address and I'll send a copy. gbuttrey@waecoadlerbarbour. Eutectic solutions in holding plates freeze at a certain temperature, and hold that temperature as the solution melts. The plates are drawn down while power (normally a great deal of power)is available to drive the system. These are rapidly being replaced by evaporator systems driven by small dc hermetics such as we use in our systems.
