Is there a Y valve?

The drawing for the 310 plumbing in the manual shows a Y valve between the output of the toilet and the holding tank or macerator. I don't think I have on my boat (#185) and that the toilet goes directly to the holding tank. Is that correct?

Hull number 192 does not have a Y valve installed, but I do have a picture of one in the manual.

The discharge line from the head goes to the holding tank.... then if you want to pump out the holding tank over board, open up the thru the hull valve and turn on the macerator pump.

Of course everyone knows when you can discharge waste overboard:confused:

Thanks

I kinda figured that was how it was done. Makes a little more sense.

My hull No 149 has it. It can direct discharge into holding tank or straight overboard (or, if you get it wrong, directly into the boat).
If your boat has it, follow the manual's/diagram's instruction as the valve seems to operate differently, ie. the lever vs flow direction, to the thruhulls.

That's weird? 83,185,192 doesen't have it, but 149 does? wonder if they had different regs for international sales?

There is also a philosophical thing at work here: does everything go into the tank first even if you go overboard, or should it go overboard first if it isn't going into the tank. This is a MAJOR consideration in your plumbing. West Marine likes the "everything through the tank" method. I think that's absurd, why stuff anything into the tank that doesn't have to go there? Why require a macerator for overboard discharge ever if it can just go directly? http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...ding-Tanks.htm

If you have a Y valve, why not put it where it can do the most good? Between the head and the tank?

Hull number 118 has a Y valve - I have it wire tied to send to tank and the macerator breaker tied off - both done to comply as best I can with Canadian regs -
