I just replaced both my sails on my 1987 C-30. The old sails have been on my boat for over 15 yrs. As opposed to just throwing them in the dumpster is there any market for them?

Try it out--list here, on craigslist, or take them to a local loft to be offered for sail, perhaps on contingency. (But don't expect much money.) Also, rather than throw away, if it comes to that, give 'em away to a sailing 501(c)(3) organization that might have Cat 30's or other boats that they will fit, etc.

I bought a sail once that was in good shape but was not quite what I wanted. I sent it to Atlantic Sail Traders and they bought it from me.

Sea Bags says they trade used sails for their designer bags - https://seabags.com/ No recommendation, just saw the ad in a sailing mag. I've seen offers from people making canopies and hammocks out of used Dacron sails, but that's usually asking for a donation as well.

If you send them in to have bags made out of them, you will spare someone from sailing with 20 year old crapped-out sails.

There IS a valid used-sail market, it is made up of decent sails that were wrong the the boat for some reason. If yours are 20 years old spare someone from having to sail with them! ;^)

I donated a main and jib to a business that makes totes and other items from used sails. In return, they made me a nice, large, tote from the sails, used the sail logo on one side and sewed my admirals name on the other using the phonetic alphabet flags.
Way cool and very sturdy. The admiral loves it.

Popeyes (consignment shop here in North Van) used to accept used sails, but they stopped. They said by the time someone replaces the sail, the old one is only good for dishrags, so nobody buys them.

I second this recommendation -- the used to have a West Coast office down on Shelter Island in San Diego and had some nice looking bags on display. Worth checking out if you don't want to just chuck them in the garbage.
