I have been working on the interior of this boat for a little while and I can’t believe that there is no bilge pump on the boat. There is a switch for one on the fuse box but I can’t find the thing… Is it possible that they don’t have one??? This is very alarming to me since I plan on taking it to Nantucket or the vinyard occasionally and the lack of a pump really sets it up for disaster. How do these boats drain? Has anyone installed one? Though I know this is only a day sailer, without a bilge or way to get water out if I take a wave over the stern I believe this is more of a harbor cruiser… Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated. if there is a pump, it would be in the area og the bottom under the cabin entry or along the side of keel trunk. look at the switch and look for wire going to a pump, if none, put one in, and use smooth linning hose for better pump output and you will have to mount a thru hull above the waterline for it. min 1000gph or more. check hull for thru hulls, if none, no pump...

'22 bilge
My old '73 O'Day 22 did not have a bilge pump or a bilge per se. The cabin sole was bonded to the hull in most places. I installed a 4" access plate center line where the companion way enters the cabin. This allowed me to install a small bilge pump. Untill I replaced the port lights I was constantly pumping out rainwater! If I remember, the 22 is stuffed with mucho foam and is basically unsinkable no mater how much water you take on. Sorry I don't have anymore specifics but that was 20 years ago.

No electric pump. Suggest a hand type pump...Beckson makes one called a "Thirsty Mate" costs around $22.00. I've used one on my "22" since 1972.

I have a 1983, 22 foot O'day (which I love). The bilge rarely has a drop and I carry a hand pump but I am never far from land either!

check for a wire
hey Steve, If you take the four screws out that hold the fuse panel inplace, you can see if any wire is attatched to the switch. My 77 22 had a rectangular hole in thecabin floor over the keel, and a pump could mount there. I have seen older ones that just had a hole for a manual pump to be inserted.I think you could also mount one under the cockpit floor by opening up the plywood partition there. Ps- keep the hatchboards up when it's rough.I took mine to Block the first of November a few years ago. Have safe fun

So I installed an automatic rule there but find one problem. The automatic has no float switch so it fit right in but it takes a lot of power to run a pump that checks for water every 2.5 mins by running for a second. The battery charging is a problem without an electric start motor.
