Is ther any interest in a Hunter 23 regatta? It could be a 23 get togather and a little racing with a party and feast of food. All the 23 came with trailors how far would you be willing to go and what would be a good spot,Great Lakes or somewhere south?

Great Lakes

Cliff - I thought you sold your 23. Anyway, I've started to race mine (not too successfully, yet). I'd participate in something next year. I would probably be willing to go about 500 miles from Detroit.

Jim I did but want to get somthing going with the 23 and 25.5I have access to both boats and want to race one or the other. Mostly the 25.5 but want to get somthing going for the 23 and 25.5. Dick Vance has it set up to do the 25.5 down in Tenn. and we could do the 23's also.I live in Findlay OH not far from you about 2 hours south. Cliff

Sandy Hook NJ. in the Atlantic Highlands Marina

The Atlantic Highland Marina, would be a great place the Bay offers great sailing it shouldn't be to rough for the lake sailors. There is a 65ft water taxi that can take to NY right to south street seaport, party fishing boats great Jersey Shore Beaches, Boardwalks etc.

25.5's and 23's Too!

Cliff & I have been trying to set up a 25.5 Regatta next Fall, 2000. This would be the Hunter 25.5 World Championships!! My club, Cherokee Lake Sailing Club, on, where else, Cherokee Lake in East Tennessee, has agreed to host the event and provide race support. This would be centrally located for sailors from North to South and within a days' drive from much of the country. Cherokee has the best sailing in East Tennessee. The lake is about 35 miles long and deep and wide near the dam where we race. It is located at Jefferson City, TN, about 25 miles east of Knoxville with nearby access to I-40, I-75 and I-81. Understanding that not so many 25.5 owners have trailers, It might be that the field could be extended to the 23's as there are a lot more of these boats with wheels. The "Hunter 25.5 National Association" (Cliff & I) would really like to get this going. As far as I know, there is no active Hunter class racing anywhere and this would be a first and hopefully, the start of some real Hunter racing with these great boats! Read Dick Vance's Response

So we have the spot. Dick and I are trying to make this happen. Who will go the distance? Check on how far you will have to travel. We will need at least 10 boats for this to be a worthwhile event. I need 10 25.5 and 10 23's to make it a good event. I can get 2 23' and maybe 2 25.5 to make the journey to Tenn. But we need to make plans for this now. Cliff

This would be great.

Count me in. I've got a trailor and a 23. I live in Atlanta so KY or TN would be great for me. Early summer or late spring would ber best for weather, I would assume. I might be able to get some of the other H23 owners down here to show-up as well. Make the plans and we'll all show. Good luck...

Kentucky Lakes is gorgeous

I don't have a H23, but I have been following this thread a bit with interest. Sounds like a wonderful idea. For those who may not be familiar with Kentucky Lakes, it is a beautiful lake. The Hunter dealer there has one of the nicest facilities I have seen, with a terrific full service marina, a rental fleet and rental cabins. He has a web page at www.lighthouselanding.com. You would think he might be interested in helping facilitate such a gathering. I think there is also a web site for Kentucky Lakes. This area is easily accessable off of I-24 (only about 2-3 miles off of the interstate) and just outside of Paducca, KY. Hope you all have a great time. Email me direct if you have further questions. Kentucky Lake

kentucky Lake in the spring or early summer can't be beat. Any latter than that and you should wait until late september or your regatta will be subject to light winds most likely. The Kentucky Lake Sailing Club would be great resource for getting assistance for the races and Marty Colburn at Lighthouse Landing (lighthouselanding.com) is generally very helpful with such events.
