Is the taper on a propshaft a standard size?

Are the tapers on propshafts all a "standard"? I've got a 1" shaft, and want to order a new Campbell Sailor propeller - do I have to take off the old prop and look at the taper, or will it probably be a standard size that I do not have to worry about? I know my prop shaft was replaced at some point in the past, so it might not be an orginal part (1980 boat). Any info would be appreciated.

Jim, The Campbell sailor went on my 1" shaft without any problem (88 Hunter 30).

Standard Tapers?

Jim, Standard tapers can be 1 in 10, 1 in 12 or 1 in 16. It depends upon the builder. The steeper tapers are intended to make prop removal easier and the shallower ones are supposed to be more secure. Prop makers are aware of this but I suggest you ask Hunter just to be sure. Incidentally you might be able to measure up without removing the prop. Back off the nut, measure the shaft at either end of the prop and measure the length of the prop hub along the shaft. Then you can work out the taper.

Jim I installed a campbell sailor on our V32 1 inch shaft, it fitted on no problem. You will enjoy the prop when in head winds and seas.
