Does anyone know if the dining table in the Hunter 26 is removable? The table is very large, but the support post that has the swing keel Uphaul line inside goes through the table.

I once had to re-bed my H26 compression post. To remove the table will be a lot of work. The compression post would need to be pulled out from the deck until it clears the table inside and then you'll need to restring the center board line. I felt as you did when we had our 1996 H26. We opted to keep the table but raise it to the ceiling when not needed. Yours probably has the same removable stainless pin in the compression post that supports the table just like ours. I carefully drilled new holes in the compression post that allowed us to raise the table to the ceiling and use the same pin in the new location. This really opens up the cabin. If you opt to do this remember when drilling not to nick the center board line and to clean up any burrs left after drilling to prevent chafe on the CB line.
Well, its definitely removable, however you will have to use a saw......
Are you planning to modify it or remove it completely? Just curious, this has been the one mod I have been dying to make over the years. Why they didn't make it drop down and convert into a large berth is strange. They clearly had the intention with the 270 as the lips of the seats are molded to hold the table. The big honking cone on the bottom keeps it from dropping all the way. Also not sure how I would get the table back up after I dropped it without making it smaller and lighter. Seems like a little bit of design effort could have resulted in a much better use of the table and the space.

I agree. Most boats that I've seen have a convertible dining area. Even campers have it too. I wonder if the large cone under the table is removable.
You can cut it off but you will need to figure out how to support the table in the up position. There have been a few mods posted over the years in the mods section.

We keep ours turned to extend the v-berth 99% of the time just to keep it out of the way. I would rather see it drop down to convert into a berth though, it would be much more usable. It's pretty big and awkward to maneuver, I think it would be a bear to raise if you dropped it down, but that would make one awesome berth.

That happened when the 260 came out in a keel form known as the 270. However, many people over the years liked the large V berth vs. the table going down in the main salon as many would be stepping over everyone.

It is interesting how we all look at things a little differently. One rainy afternoon as 6 of us sat around the table playing games since it was to wet to sail , or the evening the grand kids spent the time with us around the table, I thought how neat to have such a nice table in a relatively small boat.
