I am looking at a 24. Is it big enough for a family of six, two adults and four children. Like alot of people, I want a boat big enough, but not to big($$$). I plan on using the boat mostly for day sailing in the great lakes area. However, I want enough room below so when my kids get bored or are fighting they can split up and seperate and find some space. And just by chance, I might want to spend the weekend on the boat. Is this possible for the 24 or do I need to move up. Thank you one and all. Robert

It works...at least in theory.

The 240 is good for a lot of reasons, but I'm not sure that serving a family of 6, at least at the same time, is one of them. The day sailing would probably be fine as long as you kept things well organized and reasonably disciplined. Although the specs suggest enough room, the sleep over part would probably be tough. Unless you're all already used to confined spaces (say driving around the whole crew in a Mini), I'd opt for something more spacious. One porta-pottie for a family of 6 sounds a little scary too. Good Luck -Ed

Get a H26 or H260

I raised two kids on a 22, cruising a lot of the time. However, I now own a H26 and think the 26 is much more appropriate and a minimum for a family of six. To save a few bucks, find a used 26 and forget the H24. That's my two cents -

Find a used 26 or 260

I have a 1994 23.5 and have two small children ages 6 and 9 and when doing overnighters there is only enough room for the four of us and all our stuff and still be somewhat comfortable. Even if you only day sail with the whole family you will want more room to spread out. Pay a little more and get the 26. You will be glad you did. check out this website (which is where I found my boat) boattrader.com, and yachtworld.com for used 26's and 260's. Good luck.

I vote for the 260

I've owned both, and five other people on a 240 would not be my idea of fun.

It would depend on how big the kids are

The boat would be fine if the kids are under 4' tall. It would be a little bit tougher on those over 4'. I've spent almost a week on my 240. I didn't have 4 kids but I do have a wife and to cavalier king charles spaniels.

The Hunter brochure says it will sleep 4. they would have to be awfully good friends because after a weekend they would be ready to kill. If you try an overnight on a 240, put the potty in the cockpit for the night. 4 kids and a wife on a 240 is a very very brave man.

I doubt if you would be happy

I own a 240. It is too small for 4 kids. It is also a bit tender and would require everyone to be in sync with were they should be, given wind gusts etc. If you can find a 260 that is priced right, you will have a lot more enjoyment and less struggles.
