Hi, I'm considering a small sailboat that will seat 4 adults comfortably, have enough freeboard to keep everyone relatively dry, and be easy to sail by guests who have some sailing experience. I live on the water and have a sandy beach. Is the Hunter 170 fairly easy for two 40 yr olds to pull up out of the water onto the beach? Is this a boat that you can leave resting on the beach all summer like many do with a Hobie 16? I guess cosmetic scratches don't bother me. But, Is the hull going to warp or get ruined by leaving it on the beach? Thanks for any and all opinions, Erik

Beaching a 170
I've got a 146, and at 120lbs, could pull it up on the beach myself if I had too, though to bring it well up past high water line, would want some help! Try calling Hunter with that question... I would think it would be fine to keep it beached, but hopefully you'll hear from some folks with actual experience tp better guide you. Enjoy!

I don't think I would.
I don't think I would do that to my 170 because the hull is not real thick. It seems that leaving a 480 pound boat laying on the sand would deform the hull. But that is just my opinion. Maybe some of the other 170 sailers have better advice. Tim

I think you would not want to beat up your bottom and would wear out the bottom. I don't know what your hull is made of but I sailed hobie cats years ago and the bottom of the hulls would leak from beaching them and wearing bottom fiberglass very thin I got a beach dolly to pull it on the beach,they are very light. So maybe look into a dolly for yours.

I pull mine up on the beach all the time. I am not a strong man, but I have no problem pulling it up on the beach and shoving it back off. I guess I gave it a second thought. Probably scratches the bottom a bit, but well below the waterline where you will never see it. Besides, my last boat was a canoe, if you don't have scratches on the bottom of you canoe, you must not use it much! j

Thanks to everyone for their opinions. I should be able to moor it just off the beach and will look into doing that. But, it's nice to know that running it up on the beach every now and then should be fine, too.
