When climbing and doing anything that has the

risk of parting company with whatever you happen to be standing on, the three point rule is law. Two hands and one foot or both feet and one hand securely in place. Emergencies are no time for making haste without caution. I have taught my kids and my grand kids to consider the risk in everything they do and take whatever precautions are indicated for safety. You don't have time for an accident.

Safety is directly related to conditions...

I love to be safe! The problem is that conditions change faster than most can prepare. Storms, waves, malfunctions all play a part. So, my take is that you are always ready to step ahead of problems, instead of waiting until you are one step behind. If the weather gets bad, so does the waves and the wind and then it rains, the decks get bad, visability get poor, the fog sets, the electronics short out..... Try to be one or two steps ahead. r.w.landau
