Is Oday still in business?

Hi,I am a sailing newbie and have been looking at purchasing an 1984 model. It needs some work, but before I get involved with such a project I have some questions: can anyone tell me if Oday is still in business? Have they merged with another company? This model that we may purchase is requiring some pieces and I'm not really to sure where to go.Thanks for all your help in advance!Siobhan

O'Day is out of business, and has been for some time. One of their former employees purchased most of their inventory, and sells parts for most of the models. Just about anything that is needed, he can get for you.Contact Rudy at D&R Marine (www.drmarine.com). Use the website as a reference to get hold of him. He's basically a one man shop, and it's best to place any orders by calling him.

O'Day molds were purchase by Japan Company

You could fly to Japan and sail back with your new O'Day.

This looks like

the new O'day which was owned by AMF at the time OD went out of business. The old OD is a very different boat than the AMF boat. George O'day would roll over in his grave if he thought that this AMF/japanese boat were connected with his name. The so-called "hydro keel" that this O'day Japan web site speaks of has a nasty habit of falling off without provocation. One fell off in the Saginaw Bay here in Michigan a number of years ago. It was the gray AMF OD 30 with the swept back looking wing keel. Amazingly they recovered the keel and bolted it back on. The boat has been on the hard for a number of years now and water can be seen seeping out of the keel to hull joint in the spring. It must have some deck leaks which allows water to get into the bilge and then out through the keel. Somehow I'd prefer using a bilge pump for that purpose.MikeLake Huron
