After having problems furling my headsail I went up the mast to discover that there is about a 4" piece of extrusion that has been added (spliced?) at the very top of the stay. It has come loose and it hitting the spinnaker halyard when I try to furl the sail. Is there anyway that this can be repaired? Its made by Hood Yacht Systems and is on an '83 Hunter 34. Any input is appreciated. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/fatass03/cid_000501c64d41982655e06600a8c0non.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/fatass03/cid_000601c64d41982655e06600a8c0non.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/fatass03/cid_000701c64d41982655e06600a8c0non.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/fatass03/cid_000701c64d3d2a56c0306600a8c0non.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/fatass03/cid_000801c64d3d2a56c0306600a8c0non.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>

Is my Extrusion repairable?

Yes of course, the question is how much work will you have to go through to remove it? You might be better off replacing that piece of extrusion. Otherwise try taking it to a weld shop and get them to heli-arc weld it.

Its replaceable

Anything can be repaired it just depends on how much money, time and work are you willing to invest. I would rather replace it.

contact the mfg.

Robert: I would suggest that you contact the mfg for the price of a replacement part. Depending on the age of the unit (probably 23 yrs) you may be better off looking at a new unit. I would recommend the Spin-Tec unit that is sold on this site. Heavy duty bullet proof units at a very reasonable price.
