I have a MMSI (367390040) issued by the FCC. Is this tied to my call sign (WCZ5101) permanently? If I get a new call sign, can I transfer the MMSI to it?
The reason that I ask is because I've been thinking about getting a Ham license and I'm also planning on getting an AIS transponder. The transponder can only have the MMSI programmed once. I don't want to have an AIS transponder that has a bad MMSI in it.

Never mind, I think I have it figured out. I have to maintain my Ship Recreational License, to which the MMSI is linked, and I can then get a ham license, which is totally separate.
