I had to go to the classifieds today and take my ad down for our San Juan 28. I had to watch a new owner walk away with keys. We went out for sea trials today and I motored back to the slip and stopped with the fenders 1 inch away from the dock. The new owner said "NICE". I about cried. The new boat is bigger and nicer, but I can't manage her like I can the old San Juan. Is this really supposed to be a great day?????

You've got the hot blond hanging all over you & you're sad because it's like seeing your
ex-wife with another guy.

You moved up to another boat that you really wanted, don't be sad. You are solely responsible for bring joy into another persons life. That in itself is priceless!

The solution is to change boats a little less often than socks. :D

I enjoy fixing up boats, so I own several at a time. Once they work perfectly I want to try something else.

While I remember them fondly when gone, my awareness is focused on the newest one that needs fixing up.

My wife becomes more attached than I do, and has ordered me at times not to sell a boat she likes. But a couple boats later she doesn't mind so much. That's another reason to have several.

Plus, she loses track and doesn't care so much when a new one appears. ;)

I'll admit to having tears in my eyes when selling cows I raised from calves.

Thanks everyone. The new boat looks great. I think we'll enjoy it. I just want my cake and to eat it too.

hello all

i just sold my 1971 Morgan 35ft sailboat to a fellow disabled veteran... i know he will make her his, and he will have much fun sailing her... but i also feel i just lost a part of me... i enjoyed sailing and spending my time on my Morgan 35....

like you all, i too have a new to me boat... i recently purchased a 1979 Dufour 45ft ketch sailboat.... my wife and i plan to move onto it and do the liveaboard routine.... i have refused to part with my 1967 Kittiwake 23ft sailboat... that is my link to fun daysailing, while the 45ft ketch will be our home and vacation sailing

sincerely
Jess
You, my friend, are brilliant! I had a 36' Trojan and a 28' Cal. Sold both to buy a 46' Chris, and moved aboard. My wife had sold me hard on how proud I'd be pulling into the slip with a Classic wooden Chris in immaculate shape. The next weekend I got off work and got home, started the engines and said "Let's go!" "Go?" My wife said, "We can't just go. This is our home now, we can't just be running around in it the minute you get a whim!" Six months later I bought a 50' converted Higgins with which I could "go". But you...Somehow ..You ...can see the future!

Well, I kind of fall into an interesting category: A few years ago we had our second baby. Not having sailed much with the first child, and another military transfer to the opposite coast approaching, I cleaned up my H27 and put it on the hard up for sale. Well, the boat never sold...I got sent to Japan for two years, etc... Fast forward to late last year and I get another military transfer to Chicago (my hometown). Now the kids are a little older and the boat was sitting in Annapolis (still for sale, bad economy and all that) so I get it on a flatbed and, here I am, working on it again and getting ready for the first sailing season in almost 4 year!. I had already sold the boat in my mind, and while I regret the intervening years of no boat ownership (and some storage fees) I am the new/old/new owner of my sailboat again!
