Has anyone had experience trailering a Hunter 25? I have taken a look at a Hunter 25 that is for sale near by, but one of my requirements for a boat is that it be trailerable. Thanks for any input.

Depends on what your goals are...
Can the 25 be put on a trailer? Sure, but it's a fixed iron (lead?) keel and you'll need a special extending trailer to get it far enough out on a ramp to float it off. Plus, it's heavier than today's trailer sailors at 4400 pounds. You'll need a good size vehicle to pull it with. Can the 25 be rigged and secured relatively easily? Sure, but you'll probably have to build your own rigging for trailering (cradles, binders, etc.) Good luck!

Trailer for a Hunter 25
I bought a trailer for my Hunter 25 not so much to make it a trailerable but to save storage fees and also to work on it durning the winter. i have pulled it short distances with my 4Runner.(15 Miles) The trailer I bought is a Sea Lion and it cost $2400 capable of carrying 5700 lbs. and has surge brakes and also is a tamden axles. I save approximately $450 a year in storage fees. As far as putting the boat in the water it must be lifted in either by a large fork lift or by slings. To step the mast you will need help of at least 2 other strong persons. The mast is quite heavy but then again the boat is rather solid itself. Yes the boat can be t4railerable but you need to deal with someone who knows sailbaot trailers and sailboats. Too often, folks buy sailboat trailers and the person selling it does not know flip. Is the mast step which you can add mast raising. Oh, trailers are not cheap and that may be of serious consideration. FDave Crazy

I'm thinking about one
I've been thinking about getting one for my 25. However, new trailers are quite expensive (Triad wants more than $3,000 for one for my boat) and used trailers are hard to find. Considering I only paid $1500 for the boat, I don't think I'll be getting a new trailer. To get a used trailer, I'll probably end up buying another project boat.

What's Your Purpose?
Sure, you can trailer a H25 - I do it every year or so. Jay's got the salient point - what's your purpose? My H25 is for sale, and when people call me about it, I invariably ask them if they are going to keep it in a slip or trailer it. And if they want to haul a sailboat behind their car every weekend, I tell them to buy a H23!! My trailer is a heavy-duty tandem with a tongue extender. Still, the truck gets water just over the axle during launch/retrieve and that's not good. And raising the mast on a H25 is definitely a "non-habit-forming experience". The mast is heavy and the rigging - especially with roller furling - takes some time. My 118 lb girlfriend and I can do it alone, but it's taken some experience and serious brainstorming to figure it out! Point is - if you want to trailer a sailboat, get a lighter boat with lighter rigging and a shoal draft or swing keel. A Mac 25, Cat 22, H23...... Smooth sailing...... and trailering! Michael O'
