Oi!!
First year of owning my boat, and this week was my first haul out. . .crappy week, cold and rainy. . .had a short list of things I wanted to try and get done.
-Paint bottom
-Change sea-cocks
-Shim rudder post
-Prop shaft anodes
-Clean up hull sides
It's been out of the water since Friday. . .since then I've managed to:
-Cut out a good shaft to replace the Stuffing box hose
-New Shaft
-New cutlass bearing. . .
-Rudder is in the garage getting some repairs
-Trailing edge of the keel is getting glassed/repaired
-Only have 2 of 6 seacock backing plates glassed in. . .and nowhere to find bronze bolts to secure them. . .
Tell me, does it get better? I haven't even thought about about painting the bottom yet. . .
I plan to haul again in august when the spring rush is over and there is no time limit on stands and I can get stuff done after work and not rely on vacation time. . .I wanted to polish the topsides and paint a new water line. I was also thinking of putting off some of this weeks projects till then.
The 4 remaining thru-hulls are the old timey glassed in bronze tubes, but they all seem to be ok. The two I pulled out were solid and a pain to unscrew. I was thinking of leaving the remaining in till the next haul out. . .I was also thinking of just slapping a coat of bottom paint on it to get me through the summer and do a real sanding job at the next haul out as well. . .kinda makes this week a waste if not for replacing the rotten stuffing box hose (and figuring out where the extra water in my bilge was coming from
). . .
Can I use stainless hardware ( I can get mine from Taylors Do-It Center) to bolt down the bronze sea-cocks if push comes to shove? I'm running out of time
Just kinda venting my frustrations lol. . .thanks for listening!!!
