I have a SuperCold Adler Barbour installed on my 2001 Hunter 380. Although based in the tropics , temperature rarely goes over 90 . I set the freezer control at 3,as instructed by the manual , but can't get freezing temperatures (frozen foods or ice cream melt). When the setting is set to 6 , I get freezing temperatures for a a day or so , but too much frost sets in and then the temperature starts to drop. Is it me or is the 380 poorly insulated? Thanks for the input.

Antonio: Just as a test. Try placing a towel over the ice box opening. Leave it there for a few days and see if there is any difference. What you are experiencing seems like are leaking around the opening. If this solves your problem, you probably just needs a new seal around the opening. I would also put a thermometer inside the box and check your temperature. Maybe there is something wrong with the units thermostat.

Antonio, Is the frost build up in the freezer
around the cold plate or is the frost around the condenser assembly outside the freezer box? This makes a huge difference in figuring out the cause. If the frost is outside the refer/freezer box, and on the working parts of the compressor/condenser/evap assembly then it could very well be caused by over charging of the coolent. I don't know what type freon was used but either could do it. If the frost is inside the freezer box itself then try Steve's idea Ray S/V Speedy Ray

Not Another One!!
This seems to be a continuing problem with the 380 model. I have a friend with the same problem, and it has been on-going for a year. Check the archives, take a copy to your dealer, make them make it right.

Antonio, The #3 stting on the thermostat is in the refrigeration temperature range. The manual suggests when you first start up the system,set the thermostat at 3 for test purposes. The system should cycle at this setting. Freezers normally have to be set higher. Moisture is leaking into the box somewhere. Make sure the tubeset exit holes have been sealed. Plug any drain(s) you may have, and test the lid gaskets. Close the lid with a dollar bill resting on the gasket in various places. If the bill can be pulled out with little or no resistance, replace the gasket.

My freezer is poor as well
I have commented on this board several times about how my H380 refrig and freezer do not work well. Like yours, it did not get cold the first year although I tried most of the things everyone suggested. I finally got a local refrigerator company that works on commercial fishing boats that go north to Alaska to look at my system. They added some cold plates to the freezer and took out the fan that took cold to the refrig. We also put a cold plate in the refrig. Essentially I now have two cooling systems running off the same compressor. However, I was still getting a lot of frost in the freezer. So I changed and added new sealing material around the openings. It helped some but I still get a lot of frost. I am beginning to believe that the opening lid is not the right size for the unit. But I need some experts to look on this problem.

The plate has two copper tubes which run back to the compressor. Check where they go through the box wall and make sure the hole has been sealed. The hole is much larger than the copper because the couplings must pass through it as well. We supply a piece of Mortite (simular to plumbers putty) with the installation kit for this purpose.

My boat is a 1997, I bought the boat in 1998. I have complained from the start to my dealer about the inefective seals on the lids. They have tried diff draught excluders all to no avail !! I am sailing my boat to Toronto this summer which is a 30 hour sail for us. My dealer has promised they will fix the problem this time. Perhaps someone (A/B) should tell Hunter its not the units fault but Hunters design and fabrication of the Fridge/Freezer. It has been sugested to us that the A/B unit is at fault. Its obvious that with so many 376/380's and poss the new 386 with the same problem something should be done for all owners. Tony Wilcox
