I was watching CNN the night Rita hit, and the news man was telling us about a man on his 18' sailboat out in Lake Charles, who would not come to shore, or leave his boat. Did anybody else see that, or hear anything about it since???

interesting

Didn't hear about it...but interesting idea. I'm sure what he is thinking is that if he could keep the boat away from everything else, it should be ok, but an 18 footer...come on. Sure, the lake will not have hugh waves like the Gulf, but still...and being in at least 30 knots of wind for two days...no way. Add sea sickness to the formula and it spells disaster. Another problem...I assume he didn't have a sea anchor...how is he going to sail? He can only go bare polls for so long before he has to change course or run aground. I would think even the toughest sails would rip apart in winds over 100 mph, even if he did only have 3 square feet out. I would predict he is dead...at very least, he had to be rescued and his boat is dead...smashed agaist something...hopefully not another boat that WAS secure.
