hello y'all, I am gettin married May 05, 2007. Sincodemyo(sp). I have two silaboats, Mac26d, and OD25. Plus i have a Mckeecraft 17.5. I want to get married at the N. Anclote isl. sandbar. A little ceremony, big party, farrying guests from the Mckee and friends's boats. My new bride to be wants to rent a "BIG" sailboat and get maried aboard, then go to the island for party. I have looked on google and come up with "windsong" charterring co. but i think there boats are'nt much larger than mine, ie 34'. What are your suggestions my sailing guru's out there in cyber land. Oh for the northies out there...the weather is great in May down here. Hey. anyone want to volunteer there vessel for marriage? Thinking like a 40'plus size sailboat would due, maybe a cat? Thanks for letting me vent. Patrick

Some thoughts

Pat, 34' is a WHOLE lot bigger than 26' - remember, sailboats grow in the middle, not on the ends. :) Are you going to be the skipper, or have somebody do that for you? If you're used to a 25' or 26' boat, then 34' will be a learning experience and 40' leans toward disaster, unless you have a lot of experience. Having been behind the helm of my father-in-law's Corbin 39, I can tell you it's like driving a tug boat compared to my old h-26. Plus, it's your wedding day, I think a charter with a captain is a fine idea, that way you can party to your heart's content and not worry about anything else. You won't need additional stress on the big day, trust me. :) Dave s/v Wind Dreamer II

Another twist on....

This sounds like another spin on the 'will work for food ' thing. They claim that they are willing to give something for what they want, but really want something for free. Wanting a freebee is OK, but the deception is quite comical. He owns 2 sailboats so he is not new to sailing. Therefore he knows better than to say ..." but i think there boats are'nt much larger than mine, ie 34'." SAILORMAN, why dont you just be honest and ask for a free boat for the night?

Why not rent a barge? Dress it up a little

and tow it around from here to there?

Spelling Lesson ;D

It's Cinco de Mayo! ;D Good Luck, you'll LOVE married life! P.S. Don't let a large boat scare you too much. But get a captain and you'll also have a place to stay on your first night - at a dock!

Charter the larger boat

Like mentioned above 26 - 34 is a huge leap. The added benefit is that your wife will always be wanting that larger boat;-) Tim R.

Get a cat

Cats are more stable especially if you plan to serve food and booze, more so if some of your guests are non-sailors. No matter the size of the boat, heeling isn't fun if you're dressed up. Cats are more roomy, and with the shallow draft can come very close in to shore or even right up onto the beach (very important in shallow Florida waters). Nothing would ruin the day more than being hard aground at the end of the event and not be able to leave. Peter H23 "Raven" P.S. I try not to rub weather in Northerners faces at this time of year. They can easily return the favor in July and August. :)

go Big

I vote for you finding a boat to charter with a skipper or have a competent acquaintence skipper it. Reason > for this occasion, bigger IS better and you don't want to have any responsibilities for ferrying folks around. You shoud be enjoying this, not working to make sure everybody else enjoys it. For drinks, you can get married on my cat, but ya gotta come to Norfolk and everybody in the wedding party has to be barefoot and wear a tropical shirt or coconuts. twist this!!!!

I in no way inferred I was looking for a freeby. I can certainly pay my way. The idea of the post was to see what others thought. Obviosly you thought wrong. I ca probably rent a party barge that can hold everybody for the day for around 1k. But not too romantic...ilike the idea of 34' to get the misses to come around to my side of the dock line. You guys are right about the 34 being more boat. Just not that much. I can probly squeeze 6 adults on my 25 or 26. The 34 maybe...? The "get married on a rented sailboat" was my girls idea. I wanted to sail to the sandbar, have a ceremony there, then party, ski, fish, sail....a casual jimmy buffet/bob marley thing going. I really like the hire a cap'n thing. But I don't consider sailing/boating to be stressful. Might be a welcome distraction, from the "gonna get maried" again feeling. sorry i mispelled cinco de mayo, didn't reely want to think that hard this morning, and didn't feel that we had to be gramatically correct, guess I'll go back to school or something?

Don't drive

Get the biggest captained yacht you can afford and tie one one. No use in having to worry about getting the boat into a slip at the end of the night. Have fun and leave responsibility to others this time.
