chainplates
I just replaced seven embedded chain-plates on an Irwin 34 built in 84. The previous owner warned me that there had been a problem with the 34's embedded chain-plates and that he had replaced one after finding a mid-shroud swinging free one morning. I decided to have a look. All of the embedded plates looked good where you could see them but, where you can't see, they were in very bad shape from water trapped in the thru-deck opening. One broke one as I pulled it out of the deck. I replaced the embedded plates with thicker metal and moved a new and thicker back-stay chain-plate to the outside of the hull. I'm no expert but I'd recommend you pull the plates for a close inspection if there is any doubt.
