Irwin 28 centerboard won't drop

Hi - I have a 1974 Irwin 28 I purchased a few months ago. It's now in the water and I can't get the centerboard to drop down. I have checked the cable at the blocks and have free motion at all points. I've tried pulling back moderately on the delrin rod which gave me a slight movement but not much. Since the boat is in the water I'm reluctant to really force the delrin rod - trying to aviod leaks.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the board to drop?Thanks, Cal

hi, I also have the I -28...Just hauled mine in the spring..the c.b. was down / cable broken at the delrin rod...there are a couple things you can try...1- loosen the packing nut around the delrin rod see if it moves freely.. 2- if it still doesnt go down, there may be growth around the c.b. preventing it from going down, in this case you will have to dive under to free the c.b. let me know how you make out ...cwt
