Hello all, I have a 1971 Irwin 23 that i am making into a river cruser and wont be sailing this one. I need to remove the swing keel permently, the cable is broke and the shaft in the floor the cable hooks to when worked either way by hand doesnt lift it up or down. Boat is currently in the water. Any help or ideas? Thanks......Ray

Ray, I have a diagram of a 1972 Irwin 23 swing keel mechanism but this forum won't let me attach an image (it mistakenly asks for a URL). If you e-mail me back I can send it to you. To remove the operable keel, you have to knock out the pivot which is a drive pin that is buried under epoxy on the outside of the hull. Then it would just be a matter of removing and capping the stuffing tube opening that houses the operating rod.
