Iron Kel to Hull Joint Repair
Paul,I, too, had a problem with the iron keel to hull joint showing 'cracks' on our 1990 H-33.5. The yard did an excellent repair job on it last May 2000. They ground out paint, fairing and some joint compound to get into 'good' compound. (A previous patch had been done before we owned it with some fairing compound put over bottom paint. Needless to say that didn't hold too long.)After the old joint was cleaned out (to about a half inch in), they applied epoxy and a layer of 1806 (?) glass mat. this was repeated a total of 5 times (5 layers of epoxy & glass mat) as a 'belly band' around the entire keel/keel joint. This was ground out smooth, faired again, and sanded smooth.I primed the entire area (and keel) and painted the whole bottom. It was still in fine shape upon haul out last fall. The total cost was not cheap. It cost $1,000. for the whole repair. But, it was a very good quailty job. I'm not sorry I had it done.Good luck,Dick CareyS/V Puffin
