Right. Latest models show the Chesapeake to be in the bulls eye. Just gave the order to my marina (Herrington North) to haul my boat. I am number 100 in the queue.... Good luck to all.

If the storm hits Cape Charles, it will probably 'drain' the Ches. by about 6-8 ft. like what happened in the late 50s. If the storm 'hops' over the outer banks and goes west of the bay then .... Isabel 'all over again'. Good luck to all.

6-8' of negative surge? I wouldn't think the winds would remain in the same direction long enough to move that much water from such a large area. Do you recall the year of that storm in the 50's? I'd like to read more about that. Along the gulf coast, we're all amateur meteorologists and storm experts ya know.

Dont remember the exact year but apparently what happened but was that the storm located just off Cape Charles (the upper part of the Ches. Entrance near Norfolk, VA.) and the counterclockwise winds simply 'emptied' the bay ... or so the 'local history books' have stated. Many at that time went out to the partly drained bay and located many lost items - boats, gear, etc. until the water returned.

On a very strong and sustained NW'er the Bay can drop 2-3ft and on a very strong SE'er it can rise 2-3ft. Apparently the storm that hit just above Cape Charles produced sufficient NW/N winds on the 'land side' of the storm to cause the significant drop in water level in the Ches.

Lived in Portsmouth and was there when Hazel went through, hell of a storm. My sister's name is Hazel and she caught a lot of grief....
