Just saw this from Active Captains' newsletter

>>> A Couple of Other Things >>> We've received almost 500 emails about problems with logging into ActiveCaptain on Garmin's BlueChart Mobile app for iOS. It only happens on the iPad after you've upgraded to iOS 8.3. When you try to log in, it tells you that there is a problem with your account. There's a simple workaround until Garmin releases a fix. All you need to do is turn the iPad 90 degrees to portrait mode. Go to Garmin's Settings and log into ActiveCaptain in that portrait orientation. Strange as it may sound, that will fix the problem. After you're logged in, you can turn the iPad to any orientation for use. There's another iPad issue facing Bluetooth GPS users of iOS 8.3. There are multiple reports that Bluetooth GPS devices no longer work with any navigation product. This will also supposedly be fixed in iOS 8.4 when it is released in the future by Apple. These are two good examples of why you should never be early adopters of new OS levels on any platform. Wait a month or more. Better yet, if you're underway, don't make any major system change to any computing device. Get feedback on forums like the ActiveCaptain Facebook group and other media before updating your systems.

I have also found the gps coordinates to be incorrect as well. Both garmin blue charts and bad elf, whether used together or separately.

Funny. I am running Navionics primarily with the internal GPS and I am not having any issues. Personally I have no issues but I only expect any GPS to be accurate within 30 feet (10 meters). That's based on some previous testing I did with a couple of Garmins and a Raymarine vs. a Trimble survey GPS. The Trimble unit is sub-foot accurate and was verified with GIS. The best I got from any of the other units was within 10 feet. Most were closer to 20 feet. So I only plan on any GPS being accurate within 30 feet. For closer than 30 feet I only rely on my own eyes.

I have been thinking about doing a test on the accuracy since we hear so many complaints. Just trying to get a hold of the super accurate GPS for surveying from work but it was shipped to one of our other offices and hasn't come back. I might have to find another way to do the test so I can check the iPhone and iPad for accuracy.
