I have a new IPad Air 2, I cannot get positioning on Garmin Blue Charts without being on line and when sailing it is just not available most of the time. I understand I need some kind of added GPS device to sinc up. I have tried the Garmin Glow and that did not work. Do you have any suggestions on this?

The Glow SGHOULD work.

Try this list of steps to fix.

If you are using an iOS device and encounter a problem receiving location information from the Garmin GLO, please try these steps:

Go to the Settings app.
Tap on "Privacy".
Tap on "Location Services".
Toggle the top row to "Off". This will turn off location services for all of your applications.
Reboot your iPad (press-and-hold the top button for 5 seconds, slide the red slider to power off, wait 5 seconds, then press the top button to turn your iPad back on).
Go back to the main iPad Settings app.
Tap on "Privacy".
Tap on "Location Services".
Turn location services to "On". Also, make sure that location services are set to "On" for your Garmin application.
If you continue having problems, try leaving your iPhone/iPad connected to the Internet for a few hours (the screen can be off) after attempting the above steps. This should correct your Garmin GLO issues with your iPad.

That is what I did, in West Marine and had several others involved with me. It didn't work!
But thanks, any other ideas?

Do you have a cell data version of the iPad?

What IOS are you running?

When IOS 8.3 came out there were problems with Garmin Blue Charts. I do not know if they were fixed yet.

If you have wi-fi only iPad, you will not have GPS built in. If you can't get that Garmin to hook up with it to provide GPS data, then you should consider a Bluetooth GPS receiver, such as the Dual XGPS150A http://gps.dualav.com/explore-by-product/xgps150a/

Or better yet, take that new wi-fi only iPad back and buy one with wi-fi+cellular, that way you would get the GPS chip built in. You would not need to use the cellular data unless you wanted to. I have discovered that the Apple SIM which can work with any carrier but Verizon will constantly bug you to pick a carrier (and cellular plan.) I replaced the Apple SIM with a SIM from AT&T, though I did not activate a cellular plan, and at least it would allow me to turn off the cellular radio and stop bugging me to pick a carrier. (The Apple SIM will not allow you to turn off cellular.)

My Samsung tab S is WiFi only and has gps. Maps are stored in memory. Entire west coast. I find it difficult to believe that any modern tablet or smartphone would not be gps equipped, since location service is fundamental to these convenient devices. It is more likely to be a Garmin issue. Navionics, for example, requires no cell connection to perform navigation.
But, hey, I'm not a mac kinda guy...so if I'm wrong on this....it only validates my decision to stay with android WiFi and not get socked with data charges everytime I turn the thing on.

It sounds like it might be an issue of not having the cell-data enabled iPad (you don't need to have a data plan, but only those iPads have the GPS functionality), but I have also heard some issues with the IOS8.3 update causing issues. Hope you can get it worked out!
