Anyone have experience with "Chicago Electric/Power Tools" brand of inverters? Curious about this specific brand as to whether they hold up, perform as advertised, meet advertised specs., etc. Saw one online (new) with 2000 watt continuous and 4000 watt peak, modified sine wave, low voltage shutdown, 3 cooling fans, etc. for under $150. Any thoughts, sounds like a deal?

Chicago Brand

If memory serves the Chicago brand is one of those that you see at the big truck load tool sales. Don't want to call them cheap as I don't know, but they always gave me that impression. But they are always price way below others. If it were me I think I would spend the extra bucks and buy a brand name on this one. I have a 1000 watt Heart on my boat. Bought it off ebay for a little over a hundred bucks. Runs everything on the boat, including small fridge, and has been flawless.

Inverter

Nice n Easy's right, they are a discount catalog seller. I have bought an electric motor for an air compressor from them and it has been a good motor. Would I buy from them again? Probably not anything electronic. A high quality Whistler 2000 watt inverter costs $240. with a 2 year waranty, shipping included. The added cost would be worth it in my opinion. What are you powering with the inverter? A 2000watt inverter made by Whister needs a 200 amp supply at the rated wattage. Unless you have several batteries in parallel, they won't last long. Sail on... Terry

They're communist, made in China.

Harbor Freight sells them. It's not bad stuff for the money. I have their bench-top belt sander and brad gun. (air) They work. The sander is a little on the cheap side in a couple places but for $69.00,,,, and it held up for the rebuild of our boat and is still going. The brad gun has a slightly different name but it's all the same stuff. And Grizzles' tools are Chinese. Good stuff. So's our knew Costco BBQ. Impressive product. As far as the Chicago Electric inverter, I don't know. But don't spend a lot of money on it and I wouldn't take my eyes off of it for a while, when using it.
