Hello all sailors, Could someone tell me what is the difference between a power supply triplite p40 and an inverter and what are the various application, My understanding is the inverter can transform 110 ac current to 12 volts is that correct and what is the use for the triplite power supply it has 2 ac plugs in the front the brochure says you can use your 12volt items using the power supply. Thanks to all

Inverter is for 12V to 110

Hi JR, I'm by no means an expert on this but I'll take a stab at it. I have purchased an inverter for my boat and did a fair amount of research. An inverter will convert power from 12V to 110V so you can run your outlets and power any 110V appliance on your boat. they come in various sizes, I got a 1000W which is enough (hopefully) for my boat. There are a variety of inverters out there in a wide price range. the most expensive produce 110 like in your house and the cheaper create a modified sine wave that may or may not work for your application (seen comments that flatscreen TV's get warm on modified sine) Triplite has inverters too and I'm not familiar with P40 and couldnt find documentation about it. I suspect its a UPS which will power for as long as there is battery power in it, perhaps to shut down server etc. An inverter will use the house battery to power the 110 outlets. Hopefully I will soon get mine installed and I'll share the result
