Gents:
A friend has asked my advice as to which brand of inverter/charger would be best to install on a 45 foot boat. 12v system, 500 aH battery bank, 2000 watt inverter . Would you all recommend Mastervolt, or MagnaSine pure sine wave (as I have), or one of the new more compact units(Xantrex or ProMariner). Also wants a remote panel .

Thanks for opinions on this!

I’ve heard that the MagnaSine pure sine wave is compatible with your AC electrical equipment.

I like my MagnaSine. It's been running the house since August 2015. But I've got 7.2KW of solar panels feeding it.

Somebody double check me here. 12V * 500AH = 6000WH?
FLA batteries to 50% is 3000WH.
Full power draw on inverter is 3000WH/2000W = 1-1/2 hours. Or nearly 3 hours with lithium batteries.
That's where the math leads me but there was no calc for resistance and impedance.
And that's why I'm not an electrical inginear.

Do you have an onboard Generator?
It makes a difference on which to choose.

I just installed Xantrex and just got the remote panel to control it.

The math is right, but you’re leaving out the fact that at high rate of discharge a lead acid battery has less capacity. 500 AH is the capacity at a 20 hour discharge rate. At a much faster discharge rate the capacity will be significantly less.

Thanks all, and he does not have a generator on board.

A Victron Multi Plus. If there's room to mount it I'd consider going up to the 3000 watt 120 amp charge unit. The 50% faster charging can really help. Not much more money. These things are conservatively rated, packed with features, and not overpriced. And it comes with a 5 year replacement warranty. That alone.....
