Can I use the house bank (1000 amps) with inverter for A/C and also DC usage for 12v apppliances already on the boat?

Do you realize that 1000 amp is only 500 usable?

Even if an inverter will work you are probably only going to get about 3 hrs of use out of this 1000 amps (500 usable). Also if you had this battery bank drained down all the time, you will probably be replacing your batteries every year or two. Why don't you present this question to Xantrex. They are probably the largest inverter/charger mfg in the marine industry today. They can do the calc for you. These A/C units draw about 10-15 amps. Do not forget the start up of the compressor motor too. I suggest that you look at a genset.

Here is some info for your calcs.

Here is some info for you to do your calculations from. In their example a 1500 watt microwave (similar to your A/C unit) will run for 30 mins on a 4D battery. http://www.xantrex.com/Products/Inverters/Prowatt/prowattfaqs7.html

A qualified yes

Yes of course - I do it all the time. I have 360aH of batteries and a Heart inverter (1000 W) plus Link 1000 monitor but I never run the domestic bank below 50% discharge. The largest load which I run is the supplied 600 watt microwave cooker and it takes 75 amps. I normally like to run the engine at 1000 rpm whilst the microwave is on but most microwave sessions are only a very few minutes anyway so sometimes I do not bother. Also I run a mains voltage 14" TV, a travel size hair dryer, an electric razor and I also have an electric travel iron too but don't use it. Then there is the toaster and the sandwich maker but no electric kettle. I use a printer with my laptop, a mains electric drill and just about anything else I need from time to time, but I NEVER run the immersion heater in the tank because the current draw is far too much for the batteries. I try to limit the alliances to about 600 watts unless the usage is only to be for a few minutes and then only one at a time. Try it.

But Don....

Don: The difference here is with every one of your applicances they are only run for a few minutes. In the case of the Air Conditioner they may be "try" running it for 4-6 hrs a day/night.

Modified Square Waves

I don't know about your air conditioner, but mine doesn't like those modified square waves that the Heart invertors put out. How do I know. On several occasions the A/C power went out with the air conditioner running and the invertor switched on. Talk about a racket that the compressor made before the breaker flipped. I now operate with the invertor turned off unless I need it. With the M/W (600 watts), I start the engine if it is longer that 15 seconds.

A/C on an Inverter

Bo Steve's right, you can't unless you completely fill up your boat with batteries. Do the homework on sizing and what you'll see is that the AC draw from the A/C (air conditioning) will drain X amp hours in Y hours. Figure out the Y hours, compare them to the size of you battery bank, and you'll be very surpirsed at how little run time you'll get. Of course, you'll need to know the amperage of the A/C, but it sure isn't small.
